Stampede 66

One of our favorite foodie times of the year is DFW Restaurant Week*. For our 2017 adventure, we decided to try Stampede 66 near downtown Dallas. Let's just say that this will not be our last visit here!

First off, Stampede 66 is a Texas themed restaurant with a great menu and atmosphere...and there is free parking right next to the restaurant. It is definitely a place you can feel good wearing a pair of cowboy boots. It is the type of place you would just enjoy spending a few hours sitting and enjoying the company you are with. It almost feels like you are sitting on the front porch of a ranch in west Texas.

But, this blog is about the food...

We showed up pretty hungry and we decided to order the buttermilk biscuits to start off our dinner as we looked the the menu. We were not disappointed at all! The strawberry jelly and butter tasted amazing on them. We actually decided to bring two of them home to eat with breakfast the next morning.

Samantha started off with pork belly tacos and Garrett had a chilled corn soup with shrimp fritters that was special to the Restaurant Week menu. The soup was good, but the tacos were amazing. They were so simple, but the depth of flavor was amazing.

For the main course, Samantha chose the hanger steak with corn. Garrett had the honey fried chicken with mashed potato tots and a buttermilk biscuit. We would both go back and order our entrees again. In Garrett's words, "This is the best fried chicken I've ever had!" He thinks we need to go back and celebrate his birthday there so he can get the fried chicken again!

For dessert, Samantha had a brownie with ice cream and Garrett had a buttermilk pie with a blueberry  sauce. We each thoroughly devoured our food!

Looking through their full menu, there are several more dishes we want to go try, including their Shrimp & Grits and the Chicken Fried Buffalo Steak.

Another fun thing they offer is Sunday Dinner from 5 to 9 pm. They have a set menu and shared sides  for a set price. It would be a great way to end a weekend with close friends and family.

Give it a try and let us know what you think... or better yet, give us a call and maybe we will go along with you!

* DFW Restaurant Week is usually three weeks in August. It is a time where we go and try a new restaurant with a preset three course menu for a set price. A portion of the proceeds go to local food banks. If you want to try an upscale restaurant in the DFW area, Restaurant Week is a great vehicle to give them a try.  We will have more posts coming up about DFW Restaurant Week, so look for those soon.
