Oni Ramen

For two people that grew up in Texas, we both consider Asian soups to be comfort food. Whether Pho, Tom Yum, Miso or Wonton, we will always say yes to a well made soup.

After watching The Mind of a Chef, a Netflix documentary, where Chef David Chang takes on you a journey through his restaurant, Momofuku Noodle Bar. We were committed to finding ramen worthy of our taste buds near us, because traveling to Japanese or New York isn't on current agenda.

Our first attempt was to visit Oni Ramen in the West 7th area of Fort Worth. Let's just say, we were very happy with our decision. In fact, we go back to Oni fairly often. It's one of our favorite Friday night dinner spots, especially on a cool evening.

Now, let us explain something to you: we are NOT talking about the little packets of noodles that cost $0.50 at the grocery store containing some dried out noodles and a mystery flavor packet that most of us ate during college. We will get to the ramen in a second, but first, we need to tell you about our favorite appetizer we have (probably) ever ordered: steam buns!

Oni's Pork Belly Steam Buns are a must try. To take a phrase from Tim Hawkins: It's like "eating a baby angel." These are amazing. The pork belly is cooked perfectly and the little sandwich just works amazingly well!

And now for the main course. This, my friend, is a highly sophisticated dish. Our favorite way to order ramen at Oni: get the Signature Miso with a soft boiled egg and have them hold the bamboo shoots. (We aren't anti-bamboo shoots, but we just like this dish better without them.) Samantha likes hers with no spice while Garrett likes his with medium spice on the side so he can make it as spicy as he likes. The depth of flavor is indescribable, and the broth is simply made to perfection every time we've been.

All we can say is this place is well worth your time. We don't think you will be disappointed at all!
