Whiskey Cake

When talking with friends heading to the Plano / Frisco area, our first question normally is: "Have you been to Whiskey Cake?"

Whiskey Cake has been a favorite of ours for a couple of years now. It is ALWAYS packed, and there is nothing wrong with that. The restaurant has a great feel, although it is fairly loud due to how social of a place it is. There is a chalkboard up on the wall to the right as you walk in where they have written the location of all of their proteins and produce they are cooking that day. There is even a small herb and vegetable garden outside the restaurant.

We met some close friends for dinner there on Saturday evening at 5:30. The wait when we arrived was about 30 minutes, but by the time we left, it was closer to 90 minutes. Thank goodness for reservations!

We started off the meal with an order of Fried Green Tomatoes - and they are delicious, especially the remoulade to dip them in. For entrees, Samantha got a grilled pork steak with cheesy poblano grits, Garrett had the OMG Burger (minus the M - he doesn't like mushrooms) as well as a cup of pork chili, and our friends got an OMG burger along with a pork ramen bowl. Everyone devoured their food and we were all very happy with our choices. To top off our meal,  we went with the name sake of the restaurant: Whiskey Cake. Let's just clear up any confusion: order it. It is completely worth it. It can be easily split between four people, but if in doubt, order two!

Recommendation: if you know you are heading that way, get on OpenTable and make a reservation. It can easily save you an hour of waiting, if not more. You can make reservations one day ahead of when you are heading that way. Example: if you want to go for a dinner on Saturday evening, make a reservation on Friday morning to guarantee a table for when you would like to eat.
